What is Radiesse?

Like Juvederm, Radiesse is a dermal filler and FDA approved. While Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid, Radiesse utilizes calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. These encourage collagen production in those areas you’re trying to target. The microspheres form a kind of scaffold, and through it, collagen from your body can grow.

What Does Radiesse Treat?

Radiesse is designed to eliminate folds and wrinkles in the skin by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. Collagen is used to keep the skin nice and tight. As we age, our body’s production of collagen slows down. This is what causes our skin to sag.

Since Radiesse stimulates our body to produce more collagen again, it can bring the skin back from its state of aging. Wrinkles and lines can be eliminated and the skin can appear taut and youthful again.

If you’re used to using other dermal fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse may give you longer-lasting results. The smoother skin you get from Radiesse can last for up to a year or more, unlike the usual six months from other dermal fillers.

What Can I Expect From the Process?

We use a very fine needle for the injection to make the process as comfortable as possible. Radiesse is also approved to be mixed with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to make the injection go even smoother. Through a consult with Dr. Willis, you can determine the places on your face that you want to improve with these injections. He can then decide how much you need, as well as injection points

After the procedure, the side effects are usually minimal. As with any injection, you may have some mild redness and swelling around the injection sites. Usually, you can go to work or do your other daily activities immediately following your injection appointment.

In addition to being long-lasting, you should also see results immediately. Your skin should appear smoother the day the injections are done, minus the appearance of any side effects.

Is Radiesse Safe for Me to Get?

Radiesse is approved by the FDA. It’s also been run through multiple clinical tests to ensure that it’s safe for use. There are mild side effects that come with any injection, such as redness, swelling, or slight bruising. And, as with any injection, there is a risk of infection since it’s piercing the skin.

If you notice swelling longer than a few days, or unevenness or firmness around the injection site, you may be experiencing a rarer side effect. If this happens to you, seek medical attention.
